In the winter 2015, “Bundle Up Durham” raised $4,000 in only a few days. Our hashtag #BundleUpDurham went viral gaining us attention on multiple news sources and affirming our mission. Since then, we have grown our project into a non-profit organization with the help from Durham Academy. In the past few years, we have coordinated coat drives and fundraisers to serve those in need.
DUKE BASKETBALL PARTNERSHIP
Last year, we partnered with the Duke Men and Women’s basketball teams to run a coat drive at one of their games. At the Duke vs Carolina women’s game and the Duke vs Syracuse men’s game, we asked ticket holders to bring a new or gently used winter coat to be donated to our project. We were so pleased with the results, $500 and 48 coats, we will be working with Duke again this year.
Throughout 2017, we ran a GoFundMe campaign in hopes to raise money to help grow our organization and to buy new winter coats and gear. We were ecstatic after raising $2065!
DURHAM ACADEMY FUNDRAISER & DRIVE
Last winter, we united all three divisions of our school during our fundraiser at Durham Academy. Leading up to one of the biggest basketball games of the season, we asked DA students and their families to bring in coats that didn’t fit them and that were still in reasonable condition. We also sold t-shirts to be worn at the game and were able to raise $1,200 thanks to generous donations from the Moylan Family.
